March 2021
A fairly quiet month on the site.
But a landmark month for me personally.
After 42 years of full-time employment, I am taking early retirement at the sprightly age of 59. Had I left it a month longer I'd be 60 - and that sounds much older.
Whilst 42 years feels like the lifetime that it is, it's interesting to reflect that LYG is 18 years old - and it feels like only yesterday that I started this little exercise intended to help me learn HTML. The site has come on a long way since then and thanks to the CMS that Natasha implemented, I rarely need to use HTML anymore.
Natasha is still keen to move the site to a new platform and with more time on my hands (in theory), and Covid permitting, I'll perhaps have the opportunity to work with her on that.
What else have I got planned for my Autumn years? Well, wargaming will feature significantly, of course. With my new Ellison press and counter die(s) I will be creating variant and replacement counters and hopefully the time spent actually 'playing' will increase. I'm also interested in exploring the craft of book-binding, and we are still redecorating the house in France with rewiring and a new kitchen & bathroom scheduled for this year. I'd also like to travel around the UK more - but that may be for 2022 and beyond - afterall, even retired, there are only so many days in the year.
As I look back on my life, as one naturally does at this stage, I am content. As is the case for everyone, I've had a share of challenges, failures and tragedies. But I'm also blessed with a wonderful wife, daughter and granddaughter, reasonable health, an income which will allow Sally and I to live comfortably if not extravagantly, a hobby that leaves me feeling fulfilled and some wonderful friendships. I really don't need any more than that.
Oh, and whilst I'm here, come and join us over on the new style Consimworld Community Social Site.
BREXIT & Our EU/UK Friendly Shipping
With the UK having left the European Union and the transition period ending at the end of this year, our EU Friendly Shipping Service has sadly come to an end. Despite this, we will continue to offer a UK Friendly Shipping Service to all of our sponsors. It reduces their costs as well as saving you money related to VAT charges. Please get your favourite publisher to talk to us about how we could work with them.
And finally...
My thanks as always to our sponsors, advertisers, contributors and visitors.
